Why Patients Travel to Our Practice

Many patients who come to our practice have already seen multiple providers, tried conservative therapies, or been told that their condition is difficult to treat. Dr. Moe Hakim evaluates each case carefully and focuses on evidence based treatment planning, clear communication, and selecting the right treatment for the right patient.

Patients travel to our Arlington office because TMJ and jaw conditions can be complex, and not every practice offers the same depth of experience in advanced TMJ arthroscopy, TMJ replacement, orthognathic surgery, and complex jaw reconstruction.

Advanced TMJ and Oral Surgery Services

TMJ Arthroscopy

Minimally invasive TMJ arthroscopy may be appropriate for selected patients with internal derangement, jaw locking, inflammatory joint disease, or persistent TMJ symptoms that have not responded to appropriate conservative care.

TMJ Replacement

For severe joint degeneration, ankylosis, end stage arthritis, or major bite changes related to joint destruction, total TMJ replacement may be considered after careful evaluation.

Orthognathic Surgery

Corrective jaw surgery can improve bite alignment, jaw function, facial balance, and airway related concerns in properly selected patients.

PRF and Non Surgical TMJ Care

Not every patient needs surgery. Some patients may benefit from non surgical or minimally invasive options such as PRF injections, physical therapy, medication strategies, or referral to an orofacial pain specialist.

Dental Implants and Full Arch Reconstruction

In addition to TMJ and jaw surgery, the practice provides oral and maxillofacial surgery care including dental implants, dental extractions, bone grafting, wisdom teeth removal, full arch reconstruction, and IV sedation when appropriate.

Patients Travel to Arlington for Advanced TMJ and Jaw Surgery

The International Center for TMJ & Jaw Surgery is located in Arlington, Virginia and serves patients throughout the DMV, including Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland. Many local patients come to our practice for oral surgery, wisdom teeth removal, dental extractions, dental implants, IV sedation, and other surgical dental needs.

Our TMJ and jaw surgery practice reaches beyond the local area. Patients with complex TMJ disorders, jaw pain, bite changes, orthognathic surgery needs, and advanced jaw conditions travel from across the United States and occasionally from other countries to be evaluated by Dr. Moe Hakim. The practice has cared for patients from international cities including Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and London.

We understand that traveling for care requires planning. Our team can help review records, coordinate imaging, discuss whether a virtual consultation is appropriate, and guide patients through the steps needed before an in person evaluation or surgical treatment. Our goal is to provide clear answers, evidence based recommendations, and thoughtful care for patients who have often spent years looking for the right path forward.

Dr. Hakim reviews the history, symptoms, imaging, goals, and prior treatments to determine whether the case is appropriate for the practice.

Step 3: Treatment Planning

Treatment may include non surgical care, PRF, TMJ arthroscopy, TMJ replacement, orthognathic surgery, dental implants, or referral to another specialist when appropriate.

Step 4: Travel Coordination

For patients traveling from other states or countries, the team helps plan timing around evaluation, surgery, recovery, and follow up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required for most consultations, although referrals from dentists, orthodontists, physicians, or other specialists are welcome.

Do you see patients from outside Virginia?

Yes. The practice sees patients from throughout the DMV, other states, and occasionally international patients seeking advanced TMJ and jaw surgery care.

Can I start with a virtual consultation?

In many cases, a virtual consultation or preliminary records review can help determine whether an in person visit is appropriate.

Depending on the case, treatment may include TMJ arthroscopy, TMJ replacement, or other jaw surgery procedures. The recommendation depends on the specific diagnosis and treatment goals.
